Weed control and highbush blueberry tolerance with indaziflam on sandy soils

چکیده

Abstract Northern highbush blueberry is an important fresh market product in New Jersey where the plant was first domesticated early 20th century. Because of short period for safely and timely applying postemergence (POST) herbicides, reliance on residual herbicides that provide season-long control weeds essential growers to minimize detrimental effect weed competition berry yield quality bush growth. Field studies were conducted from 2018 2020 Chatsworth, Jersey, ‘Bluecrop’, ‘Duke’, ‘Elliott’ cultivars growing sandy acidic soil evaluate crop tolerance response repeated annual applications indaziflam at 73 or 146 g ai ha −1 applied fall spring. The efficacy treatments compared those fall-applied dichlobenil 3,300 a spring-applied mix diuron 1,800 , oryzalin 3,360 mesotrione 210 . Indaziflam currently labeled rate provided ≥85% horseweed, Canadian toadflax, large crabgrass with dormant blueberry, whereas spring less effective. Whereas minor (≤8%) transient leaf crinkling noted application never caused greater than observed nontreated weedy weed-free controls, regardless rate. No negative effects growth fruit production Findings this study suggest (1× commercial use rate) safe grown soils despite restrictions using herbicide such soils.

Efficacy of Cultivar Selectivity and Weed Control Treatments on Wheat Yield and Associated Weeds in Sandy Soils

The effect of some weed control treatments (Bifonex, Tribenuron-methyl, hand weeding and unweeded check), five wheat cultivars (Sakha 69, Sids 6, Sids 7, Sids 8 and Sids 9) and their interaction on the productivity of wheat plants and associated weeds were examined under the sandy soil conditions. The obtained data indicated that total dry weight/m2 recorded at 60 days from wheat sowing signifi...

Predicting Flower Phenology and Viability of Highbush Blueberry

To maximize yield of pollination-dependent agricultural crops, farmers must ensure that sufficient pollinators are present when flowers are open and viable. We characterized and compared the lower development threshold temperature, bloom phenology, and flower viability of five common cultivars of highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) to enable prediction of when flowers would be availabl...

Weather during bloom affects pollination and yield of highbush blueberry.

Weather plays an important role in spring-blooming fruit crops due to the combined effects on bee activity, flower opening, pollen germination, and fertilization. To determine the effects of weather on highbush blueberry, Vaccinium corymbosum L., productivity, we monitored bee activity and compared fruit set, weight, and seed number in a field stocked with honey bees, Apis mellifera L., and com...

Transmission, Field Spread, Cultivar Response, and Impact on Yield in Highbush Blueberry Infected with Blueberry scorch virus.

Scorch disease caused by Blueberry scorch virus (BlSV) spreads rapidly and radially from foci of infection. Healthy potted blueberry plants became infected when placed next to diseased field bushes from early May through mid-August. The aphid Fimbriaphis fimbriata, collected from infected field bushes, transmitted BlSV to healthy blueberry plants in controlled tests and was regarded as the most...

Curative activity contributes to control of spotted-wing drosophila (Diptera: Drosophilidae) and blueberry maggot (Diptera: Tephritidae) in highbush blueberry

Semi-field experiments were used to compare the curative activity of insecticides on spotted-wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) (Diptera: Drosophilidae)) and blueberry maggot (Rhagoletis mendax Curran (Diptera: Tephritidae)) in blueberry fruit. The organophosphate phosmet, the spinosyn spinetoram, and neonicotinoids imidacloprid, acetamiprid, and thiamethoxam showed significant let...
